"Avengers: Doomsday": Doctor Strange Takes A Back Seat To The Fantastic Four

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

The road to the next Avengers movie hasn’t been smooth, but Marvel Studios is proving that perseverance and innovation can overcome even the toughest obstacles. Originally, The Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars were set to release in the same year, with Jeff Loveness (Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania) and Michael Waldron (Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) penning the scripts.

However, negative feedback to the third Ant-Man installment and Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles led to Kang the Conqueror being sidelined as the MCU’s next major villain.

Fast forward, and the creative team has taken a bold new direction. With directors Joe and Anthony Russo back in the fold and Stephen McFeely onboard as a writer, Avengers 5 has morphed into Avengers: Doomsday. In this iteration, Robert Downey Jr. returns as a reimagined villain, taking on the iconic role of Doctor Doom. This shift has sparked immense fan speculation about how Doom’s story will unfold, especially with rumors that Marvel's Fantastic Four: First Steps characters will play a central role.

At San Diego Comic-Con, it was confirmed that the Fantastic Four would be heavily involved in Doomsday. Reports from insider @MyTimeToShineH suggest the movie will primarily center on the Fantastic Four, with Earth-616’s Avengers supporting them. Fans of Victor Von Doom’s comic arc can rest assured that this storyline will finally do justice to the character’s rivalry with Marvel’s First Family.

Additionally, the prospect of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man playing a leading role in Doomsday has fueled excitement, as fans hope for the ultimate team-up. However, Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch recently revealed that his character will no longer appear in the film. With the narrative pivoting to Doctor Doom and the Fantastic Four, the focus on integrating new dynamics into the MCU is clearer than ever.

Robert Downey Jr. has teased his enthusiasm for bringing Doom to life, emphasizing that Marvel Studios is determined to “beat expectations.” If the direction of Avengers: Doomsday is any indication, fans are in for a groundbreaking cinematic event.
