Ben Affleck To Direct And Star In Netflix Kidnapping Thriller "Animals"

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Ben Affleck is set to both direct and star in Animals, a gripping new kidnapping thriller for Netflix. The film, written by Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray, will be produced by Affleck’s Artists Equity alongside Makeready and Fifth Season. Adding to the star power, Emmy-winning actress Gillian Anderson has also joined the cast.

Originally, Affleck had planned to direct while longtime collaborator Matt Damon was in talks for the lead role. However, delays in production led to scheduling conflicts, with Damon now committed to Christopher Nolan’s upcoming project, The Odyssey. Seizing the opportunity, Affleck chose to step into the starring role himself, accelerating the film’s production.

While plot details remain under wraps, the film’s premise revolves around a high-stakes kidnapping, promising intense drama and suspense. Affleck and Damon’s Artists Equity will oversee production, with Dani Bernfeld, Brad Weston, and Collin Creighton also producing. Executive producers include Michael Joe, Kevin Halloran, and Lucy Damon.

This marks another high-profile collaboration between Affleck and Netflix following RIP, a crime thriller co-starring Damon set to premiere later this year. Meanwhile, Anderson continues her strong relationship with the streaming giant, having recently wrapped Sex Education after four successful seasons.

With production set in Los Angeles, Animals is shaping up to be a must-watch thriller, combining Affleck’s directorial expertise with an intense, suspense-filled storyline.
