Amy Adams is set to star alongside Javier Bardem in Apple TV+’s upcoming reimagining of Cape Fear, a psychological thriller executive produced by cinematic legends Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
Written and showrun by Nick Antosca (A Friend of the Family, The Act), the ten-episode series has received a full season order from the streamer. Described as a “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” that examines America’s modern obsession with true crime, the show will follow married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden as they find themselves targeted by Max Cady (Bardem), a vengeful criminal from their past who has just been released from prison.
This adaptation is based on John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners, which inspired both the classic 1962 film starring Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, as well as the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese, featuring Robert De Niro, Nick Nolte, Jessica Lange, and Juliette Lewis. While Adams and Bardem’s roles are confirmed, the casting for Tom Bowden and the couple’s daughter remains undisclosed.
Both Adams and Bardem will also serve as executive producers alongside Alex Hedlund, Darryl Frank, and Justin Falvey. Adams, known for her versatility, recently starred in Nightbitch and will appear in the upcoming comedy Lazy Susans.
With a powerhouse team behind it, this Cape Fear reimagining is shaping up to be a must-watch psychological thriller.
