"Cobra Kai": Terry Silver’s Obsession With A Teen Karate Tournament Is Absurd—Imagine If Elon Musk Did That

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Now that Cobra Kai has wrapped its final season on Netflix we can talk about one of the most hilariously ridiculous aspects of the show which is the fact that Terry Silver, a literal billionaire, becomes obsessed with winning a teenage karate tournament in the San Fernando Valley. Think about that. This man has unlimited wealth, global connections, and the resources to do anything he wants—and yet, his master plan is to dominate The All Valley Under-18 Karate Championship.

Now, let’s put this into a real-world perspective. Imagine if Elon Musk or Bill Gates, two of the richest men on the planet, suddenly poured millions into training high schoolers for a regional karate competition. Picture Musk hiring elite martial artists, sponsoring dojos, and personally coaching teens just to ensure his team won a local tournament.

Or Gates using Microsoft’s vast resources to undermine a rival karate kid’s chances. The internet would explode. Memes would flood social media. Late-night talk shows would never let it go.

In Cobra Kai, Silver’s obsession is played straight, but in reality, it would be the most bizarre midlife crisis in history. Billionaires normally chase space exploration, philanthropy, or high-tech innovations—not dojo dominance over some 16-year-olds. But hey, that's what makes Terry Silver such an over-the-top, campy villain. It’s ridiculous, it’s unnecessary, and it’s hilarious.
