Colin Farrell May Return To The DC Universe In "Sgt. Rock"

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Colin Farrell, fresh off his award-winning turn as Oswald Cobblepot in The Penguin, is in talks to return to DC—but this time, in a completely different role. The actor is negotiating to star in Sgt. Rock, a World War II epic directed by Luca Guadagnino for DC Studios.

Farrell’s potential casting comes after Daniel Craig, who had been circling the project, officially stepped away to explore a role in Greta Gerwig’s Narnia film. If Farrell signs on, production is set to begin this summer in the UK.

Sgt. Rock follows the legendary DC Comics character, Sgt. Franklin Rock, an elite soldier leading Easy Company through brutal battles in Europe. Unlike most comic book heroes, Rock has no superpowers—just extraordinary combat skills, a sniper’s precision, and an almost supernatural instinct for danger.

Written by Justin Kuritzkes (Challengers), the film is expected to stand alone rather than connect to the main DC Universe—similar to the upcoming Clayface project. While Farrell remains a key part of DC’s The Batman universe as the Penguin, Sgt. Rock could showcase his versatility in a whole new light.

With Farrell’s intense performances and Guadagnino’s bold storytelling, Sgt. Rock could deliver a fresh and gripping take on the war genre within the world of DC.
