Conor McGregor is once again making headlines with his cryptic hints about a potential boxing match against Logan Paul. The UFC icon, who has been absent from the octagon since 2021, recently suggested he’s in the preliminary stages of negotiating a high-profile exhibition bout in India.
In a social media post on December 17, McGregor mentioned discussions with the Ambani family, India’s wealthiest dynasty, fueling speculation about a massive payday for both fighters. Reports from Fightbook MMA suggest the match could take place at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, with each participant potentially earning a staggering $250 million.
While McGregor’s tweet featuring only emojis didn’t explicitly confirm the rumors, it added intrigue to the situation. Fans are left wondering if the bout is truly on the horizon or if this is another of McGregor’s marketing stunts.
The Ambani family, led by Mukesh Ambani, has the financial clout to host such a monumental event, but numerous logistical hurdles remain. For instance, the UFC must approve McGregor’s involvement, as he’s still under contract with the organization. Logan Paul has yet to comment, and his brother Jake Paul has only weighed in to take jabs at McGregor, calling him “washed” while advocating for UFC President Dana White’s involvement in negotiations.
McGregor was originally slated to return to UFC action against Michael Chandler in June 2023 but had to withdraw due to a toe injury. His last fight ended in a devastating leg injury during a bout against Dustin Poirier in July 2021. Whether this exhibition match materializes or not, one thing is certain: McGregor knows how to keep the world talking.
