Marvel fans, get ready! "Daredevil: Born Again" has undergone significant changes since its initial announcement. With new leadership and a reimagined tone, this Disney+ series promises to be more than just a return to the beloved Netflix version—it’s an evolution.
After last year’s industry strikes halted production, the show received a fresh creative overhaul. Dario Scardapane, known for his work on The Punisher, stepped in as showrunner. He teamed up with directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Loki Season 2) to craft a series more tightly connected to Netflix’s original Daredevil, bringing back familiar characters and unfinished storylines.
However, Scardapane has made it clear that this isn’t simply a rehash of the old formula. Speaking with SFX Magazine, he noted a shift in focus:
“There is more fun in the moments with these characters and a lot less navel-gazing than before... I wanted to see them doing things.”
Gone are the extended philosophical dialogues that often slowed down the Netflix series. Instead, "Born Again" embraces fast-paced action and crime-thriller energy, inspired by iconic works like The Sopranos and King of New York.
The approach to action has also evolved. Scardapane shared that longer character scenes now serve as strategic breathers between intense, high-energy sequences, creating a sharper contrast and keeping viewers engaged.
Visually and tonally, the show leans into the grittier side of New York. While Netflix’s Daredevil embraced a noir aesthetic, this new version is described as darker and more brutal. According to Scardapane:
“This show is more New York crime story. It has a pace and a scope that, for a lot of reasons, Netflix wasn’t able to do.”
The nine-episode first season of "Daredevil: Born Again" drops on March 4th on Disney+,
