"Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow" Kicks Off Filming In The UK With Potential Superman Cameo

The highly anticipated Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow begins shooting in the UK next week, and speculation is mounting about the film featuring multiple Kryptonians.

David Corenswet, who portrays Superman in James Gunn's reimagined DCU, has reportedly been spotted in London. This appearance coincides with the start of production, fueling rumors that Superman may make an appearance in Supergirl's cosmic journey. With Krypto the Superdog confirmed as part of the story, the setup seems ripe for a connection between Kara Zor-El and her iconic cousin.

James Gunn has teased that Krypto is "a pretty terrible dog" in this universe, leading to the theory that Kal-El might entrust the unruly pet to Kara as part of her character arc. This interplay could serve as a lighthearted contrast to what is expected to be a darker, more intense portrayal of Supergirl, reflecting her tragic backstory of surviving Krypton's destruction and enduring immense hardships before arriving on Earth.

New Faces and a Galactic Adventure

Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) stars as Kara, bringing a fresh take to the Girl of Steel. Director Craig Gillespie (Cruella) helms the project, while Ana Nogueira (The Vampire Diaries) adapts Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed comic run. The story follows Supergirl traveling the galaxy to celebrate her 21st birthday with Krypto. Along the way, she teams up with Ruthye Marye Knoll (played by Eve Ridley) on a quest for vengeance, with antagonists like Krem of the Yellow Hills (Matthias Schoenaerts) and Jason Momoa’s Lobo expected to play key roles.

A Bold New Vision for Supergirl

Gunn’s vision for Supergirl emphasizes her resilience and grit. Unlike Superman, who was raised in a loving environment, Kara grew up in the chaos of Krypton's destruction. This has shaped her into a more "hardcore" and battle-worn hero. "She’s not exactly the Supergirl we’re used to seeing," Gunn remarked, setting the stage for a dramatic exploration of her character.

As filming kicks off at Leavesden Studios, fans eagerly await set photos and official looks at the cast. With Alcock's compelling auditions earning high praise, it’s clear that DC Studios has high hopes for Supergirl’s future in the DCU.

Stay tuned for updates as Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow sets out to redefine the Girl of Steel for a new generation.
