DC’s "Sgt. Rock" Film: Daniel Craig Exits. Will Jeremy Allen White Take His Place?

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Daniel Craig has unexpectedly dropped out of Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming Sgt. Rock film for DC Studios and Warner Bros., as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. The exact reasons remain unclear, but scheduling conflicts involving Craig and his wife, Rachel Weisz, appear to be a factor.

Additionally, some sources suggest Craig’s enthusiasm for the project waned after his and Guadagnino’s last collaboration, Queer, underperformed at the box office and failed to make waves during awards season.

Despite Craig’s departure, Sgt. Rock is still moving forward under Guadagnino’s direction, with writer Justin Kuritzkes penning the script—their third project together after Challengers and Queer. The film will adapt DC’s Sgt. Rock comics, which follow the legendary WWII soldier Franklin Rock, an elite yet humanly grounded fighter with a near-supernatural knack for survival.

Like the upcoming Clayface film, Sgt. Rock is expected to stand alone rather than tie into James Gunn’s larger DC Universe. Production is reportedly set to begin this summer in the UK, with The Bear star Jeremy Allen White rumored as a potential lead.

As DC Studios continues to explore bold, self-contained stories, fans will be eager to see who ultimately steps into the boots of Sgt. Rock.
