DC Studios' "Deathstroke": Casting Is Near

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Exciting developments are unfolding in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, particularly surrounding the long-anticipated return of Deathstroke. According to a new report from insider MyTimeToShineH, DC Studios already has someone in mind for the role, meaning casting news may be coming sooner rather than later.

The upcoming film, which is said to feature both Deathstroke and Bane, is being penned by Captain America: Brave New World writer Matthew Orton. However, the project’s director and whether it belongs to the main DCU or an Elseworlds storyline remain unclear.

Who Will Play Deathstroke?

Deathstroke, also known as Slade Wilson, is one of DC’s most feared mercenaries, known for his tactical brilliance, superhuman abilities, and signature black-and-orange mask. The character has been portrayed by several actors across different DC projects. Joe Manganiello made a brief but memorable appearance as Deathstroke in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, while Esai Morales took on the role in Titans Season 2. However, many fans still hold Manu Bennett’s version from Arrow in high regard, as it explored the character’s psychological depth and lethal combat skills.

Over the years, several attempts have been made to give Deathstroke his own film. Ben Affleck initially planned to feature him as the main villain in a Batman movie, and Gareth Evans (The Raid) was once attached to a standalone Deathstroke project. While those ideas never materialized, it seems DC is now finally moving forward with bringing Slade Wilson back to the big screen.

The Future of Batman in the DCU

In related news, the same scooper confirmed that Robert Pattinson will not be playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU, reinforcing speculation that a new actor will don the cape and cowl. This aligns with earlier reports suggesting that The Batman and its sequel will remain separate as part of DC’s Elseworlds slate.

With Deathstroke’s casting reportedly imminent, fans eagerly await official announcements from DC Studios. Who do you think should play the iconic assassin? Let us know in the comments!
