"Frasier" Revival Canceled After Two Seasons On Paramount+

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

CBS Studios To Shop The Series Elsewhere

To the shock of no one who watched the original Frasier, Paramount+ has decided not to renew the revival of the beloved sitcom, led by Kelsey Grammer, for a third season. Despite the decision, CBS Studios, the producer of the series, remains determined to find a new home for the show, as the story of Frasier Crane is far from over.

While CBS Studios and its sister network CBS may seem like a natural fit for the series, the network reportedly has no available space on its comedy lineup. Instead, streaming platforms like Prime Video and Hulu, which already host the original Frasier episodes, may step in to continue the revival. For now, seasons one and two of the new Frasier — as well as the original series — remain accessible on Paramount+.

The Frasier revival premiered in 2023, over two decades after the original series ended. With James Burrows directing the first episode, the revival followed Frasier Crane’s new chapter in Boston, navigating personal and professional challenges while reconnecting with family and friends. The cast included Jack Cutmore-Scott as Frasier’s son Freddy, Nicholas Lyndhurst as his old college buddy Alan, and Toks Olagundoye as Olivia, head of the university’s psychology department.

Despite the star power of Grammer and appearances by original cast members like Bebe Neuwirth (Lilith) and Peri Gilpin (Roz), the revival struggled to gain traction on Paramount+, a platform better known for dramas like Yellowstone and Star Trek. Additionally, the absence of David Hyde Pierce, who declined to reprise his role as Frasier’s brother Niles Crane, disappointed many fans of the original show.

For fans, the cancellation is bittersweet. While the show’s future remains uncertain, CBS Studios’ efforts to shop the series provide hope that Frasier Crane’s story may yet continue on another platform.

As the entertainment landscape continues to shift, revivals face the challenge of balancing nostalgia with modern storytelling. Whether Frasier finds a new home or not, its impact on television history remains undeniable.
