Green Lantern Rings In "Lanterns" & "Superman": Why Are They Different?

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Green Lantern was created in 1940 and was one of DC's first successful properties after the mega success of Batman and Superman. The character started off with mystical origins and the original comic was cancelled. When Green Lantern was relaunched they chose to make Green Lanterns a group of intergalactic peacekeepers who all wield same style of rings.

Superman- Nathan Fillion/Guy Gardner

Lanterns- Aaron Pierre/John Stewart and Kyle Chandler/Hal Jordan

Now that we’ve seen two examples of Green Lantern rings in the James Gunn DCU ( Nathan Fillion/Guy Guardner and Kyle Chandler/Hal Jordan) the question has to be asked; Why do they look different?

Here we will attempt to throw out a few possibilities:

Theory One: The rings have a “secret identity” or “undercover” mode.

Theory Two: Every Green Lantern has a different ring.

Theory Three: Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) is a more seasoned veteran lantern, Guy Gardner (Nathan FIllion) not so much. It’s possible that senior lanterns have different rings for any number of purposes. Less restrictions, more power, more charge, more capability being possibilities.

Or just simply they could be symbolic of longer service and personalized for that reason. We do only have only two examples of GL rings so far so there’s plenty of room for possibility, but those three seem the most plausible to this fan at least. What do you think? Any other options that I missed?
