How "The Flash" Fumbled Its Batman Multiverse Moment

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

The Flash movie had everything going for it—a multiverse storyline, fan-favorite Batman actors returning, and the chance to deliver an unforgettable crossover event. But unlike Spider-Man: No Way Home, which brought together three generations of Spider-Men in emotional and action-packed scenes, The Flash completely wasted its Batman multiverse potential.

Michael Keaton, Ben Affleck, and George Clooney all appear in the film, yet they never share a single scene. Instead of an epic moment uniting these legendary Dark Knights, the film keeps them isolated, robbing fans of the chance to see their chemistry, contrasting styles, and potential banter.

Compare this to No Way Home, where Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland not only fought side by side but also shared heartfelt conversations about their struggles, losses, and what it means to be Spider-Man. The Flash’s multiverse felt disjointed in contrast, relying on nostalgia without delivering the payoff that fans craved.

Even Clooney’s last-minute cameo, meant as a joke, felt like a missed opportunity. Imagine Keaton’s grizzled veteran Batman, Affleck’s battle-worn hero, and Clooney’s suave Bruce Wayne exchanging dialogue—perhaps even learning from each other. Instead, The Flash failed to stick the landing, making what should have been an iconic crossover feel underwhelming.
