UFC President Dana White has strongly denounced fighter Bryce Mitchell after the 30-year-old made antisemitic, homophobic, and transphobic remarks during a podcast, including praising Adolf Hitler.
Mitchell, who has been in the UFC since 2018 and won his last fight in December and is considered pound for pound the biggest moron, made the comments in the first episode of his new podcast. In a rambling monologue, he falsely claimed Hitler was “a good guy” and denied the Holocaust.
“I honestly think Hitler was a good guy based on my own research – not my public education, indoctrination. I really do think before Hitler got on meth, he was a guy I’d go fishing with,” he said.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, White did not hold back. “I’ve heard a lot of dumb and ignorant sh*t in my day, but this one is probably the worst,” he said. “Hitler was responsible for the deaths of six million Jews and tried to eliminate an entire race. Anyone defending him is a moron.”
Despite his disgust, White confirmed the UFC would not punish Mitchell, citing free speech. Instead, he pointed out that fans who disapprove of Mitchell’s views will get the opportunity to see him compete in the octagon. “That’s the beautiful thing about this business,” White said. “For all of you that hate Bryce Mitchell, you get to see him hopefully get his ass whooped on global television.”
At this stance I draw the line and say he needs to be immediately be cut. I'm all for pre-fight WWE like drama to hype fights but this just should not be even entertained. What happens if he wins his next fight and Joe Rogan interviews him and Mitchell starts praising Hitler?
The backlash has been swift, with at least one of his sponsors, clothing brand The Regenaissance, cutting ties. Its founder, Ryan Griggs, stated on Instagram that Mitchell’s comments did not reflect the company’s values.
As of now, Mitchell has not publicly responded to the controversy. But I think Dana White should do right thing for the UFC brand and ban him.
