James Bond Franchise Gets A Major Shake-Up As Amazon Takes Creative Control Over From Barbara Broccoli

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

The iconic James Bond franchise is entering a new era as Amazon MGM Studios assumes creative control, marking a significant shift in the series' 60-year history. In a newly announced joint venture, longtime producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli will remain co-owners but are stepping back from day-to-day decision-making.

Amazon acquired MGM in 2022, gaining distribution rights to all Bond films. Now, with this latest agreement, Amazon MGM Studios will have full creative authority over future 007 productions. While Wilson and Broccoli have been the guiding force behind Bond’s cinematic legacy, they have decided to focus on other projects, passing the torch to Amazon’s film division.

“We are honored to continue this treasured heritage and look forward to ushering in the next phase of the legendary 007,” said Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios.

The announcement comes amid ongoing speculation about the future of the Bond franchise, especially regarding Bond 26, the next installment after Daniel Craig’s departure in No Time to Die (2021). As fans eagerly await the next actor to don the tuxedo, Amazon’s takeover suggests fresh creative directions for the beloved spy saga.

With this major transition, fans are in an uproar that franchise will get watered down with spin-off TV series and moving away from British Bond traditions.
