Jared Padalecki, beloved for his roles in Supernatural and Walker, is teaming up again with Anna Fricke, the executive producer/showrunner of Walker, for an exciting new drama set in rural Texas. The untitled one-hour series, currently in development at CBS, marks a fresh collaboration for the duo, combining Padalecki’s on-screen charisma with Fricke’s storytelling expertise.
The series shifts gears from Padalecki’s rugged ranger role in Walker to that of a resourceful and devoted country doctor. What sets this show apart is its unique setting—rural Texas, a “medical desert” where healthcare is scarce. Unlike traditional medical dramas that focus on large, urban hospitals, this project will highlight the challenges and triumphs of providing care in underserved areas.
Padalecki’s character will operate a mobile clinic alongside a young protégé, a doctor escaping her troubled past. Together, they’ll deliver a mix of improvisational medicine and emotional support to their community, aiming to heal both bodies and souls.
Fricke and Laura Terry will executive produce under Fricke’s Pursued by a Bear production banner, alongside Padalecki and Dan Spilo. The show will be produced by CBS Studios, where both Fricke and Padalecki have active development deals.
This new drama doesn’t impact Padalecki’s other potential CBS projects, including his rumored involvement in a Fire Country spinoff titled Fire Country: Surfside. Padalecki recently appeared in a three-episode arc on Fire Country, which sparked discussions about his continued presence in the CBS drama lineup.
Padalecki’s long-standing collaboration with CBS Studios also includes Walker and its prequel series, Walker: Independence, both of which Fricke played key roles in developing. CBS Studios President David Stapf lauded the partnership, describing Fricke as a "fantastic producer" and Padalecki as a "great producer and lead."
This marks another bold step in Padalecki’s career, as he continues to balance acting and producing. Meanwhile, Fricke is juggling several projects, including an upcoming NBC drama titled Look What You Made Me Do.
Fans of Padalecki and Fricke can look forward to seeing how this rural medical drama brings fresh perspectives to television storytelling, shedding light on the challenges of healthcare in underserved communities.
