Jason Momoa To Take On The Role of Lobo In "Supergirl: Woman Of Tomorrow"

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Jason Momoa is officially stepping into a new DC role, leaving behind his days as Aquaman to take on the iconic antihero Lobo in the upcoming film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film will showcase the darker side of the DC Universe, as highlighted by its star-studded cast and gripping storyline.

Momoa’s casting marks a significant shift in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reimagined DC Universe. The movie will follow Superman: Legacy—the first film in Gunn’s rebooted DC slate. Starring Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) as Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman, the narrative promises a grittier take on Supergirl’s origin.

Gunn previously described Kara’s journey as one shaped by tragedy, contrasting with Superman’s more idyllic upbringing.

Joining the cast are Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain Krem of the Yellow Hill and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Mary Knolle, with a screenplay penned by Ana Nogueira, adapted from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed comic run.

Momoa, a longtime fan of the character, expressed his excitement in an Instagram post, simply captioning it: “They called.” In a prior interview, he shared his passion for playing Lobo, stating, “He was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role.’”

Production for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow kicks off on January 13, 2024, with a theatrical release scheduled for June 26, 2026. As the DC Universe pivots toward darker, more character-driven stories, Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo is set to bring irreverent energy to this fresh chapter.
