A quarter-century after becoming a national sensation, Jeff Douglas is back with a new patriotic message for Canadians. The actor, best known as the flannel-clad "Joe Canada" from Molson Canadian’s famous 2000 ad, has released a fresh take on the legendary rant—this time with a political edge.

Titled We Are Canadian, the video sees Douglas passionately defending Canada against U.S. President Donald Trump's rhetoric. "They mistake our modesty for meekness, our kindness for consent," he declares, as images of Trump flash on the screen. The video, uploaded to YouTube by an anonymous group of Canadian creatives, quickly gained traction, currently at over 700,00 views.

The original I Am Canadian ad was a cultural phenomenon, uniting Canadians around a lighthearted but proud national identity. However, Douglas, now a CBC radio host, acknowledges a more nuanced perspective in his new performance. While still a bold declaration of Canadian pride, We Are Canadian briefly touches on the country’s historical challenges, flashing an image of a Mohawk land defender during the 1990 Oka Crisis as Douglas admits, "Are we perfect? No."

The video arrives at a moment of heightened nationalism, with many Canadians boycotting U.S. goods and booing the American anthem at sporting events. As tensions rise over trade disputes and Trump’s provocative statements about Canada being the "51st state," Douglas’s fiery new rant resonates with a population eager to assert its independence.

Whether it will have the same cultural staying power as the original I Am Canadian ad remains to be seen—but one thing is certain: Joe Canada still has something to say.
