Joe Rogan is pushing back against claims from Kamala Harris’ campaign that his podcast team misled them about a potential interview. On The Joe Rogan Experience this Tuesday, the podcaster laid out his version of events, contradicting allegations from the new book Fight: Inside the Wildest Battle for the White House.
According to the book, Harris’ team arranged a campaign stop in Houston with Beyoncé to position her for a possible appearance on Rogan’s podcast in Austin. However, they were later told that the date was blocked out for Rogan’s personal time—only to find out he had booked former President Donald Trump instead.
Rogan, however, insists that’s not how things went down. He stated that Trump’s booking was straightforward, while Harris' team never fully committed to the interview. “They never agreed to do the show. None of that’s true,” he said. He also denied that Harris' team visited his studio for a walk-through.
Rogan claimed that he wanted to release both interviews on the same day and even suggested doing Harris’ interview late that night after her Houston event. But, according to him, her team was hesitant. Even after Trump’s interview aired, the Harris campaign reportedly offered Rogan a session in Washington, D.C.—but with strict conditions, including a stenographer and staff in the room. Rogan rejected the setup, saying, “It shouldn’t be some fake version where I’m sitting in a conference room.”
He insisted that if Harris wanted to appear, it should be in his usual podcast setting, just like Trump’s interview.
After Trump’s episode was released and racked up 50 million views, Rogan believes the Harris team regretted their decision. “I think then it was like, ‘What the fuck are we doing? He just did it. Got 50 fucking million views. This is so stupid. Why didn’t we do it?’” he said.
“They keep pretending that I lied,” Rogan added. “We have all the receipts… I think it’s someone trying to cover their ass.”
The controversy raises questions about media strategy in political campaigns, as well as how candidates engage with alternative platforms like Rogan’s massively influential podcast.
