Netflix’s adaptation of BRZRKR, the hit comic co-created by Keanu Reeves, has found its director. Justin Lin, known for his work on Fast & Furious and Star Trek Beyond, will helm the highly anticipated action film.
The BRZRKR comic, launched in 2021, follows an immortal warrior cursed with an uncontrollable thirst for violence. Reeves will star as the titular character, a half-mortal, half-god who has battled through 80,000 years of history. In modern times, he works for the U.S. government, taking on missions too dangerous for anyone else, all in pursuit of one goal: discovering the truth behind his existence—and how to end it.
Reeves co-wrote the comic with Eisner-nominated writer Matt Kindt, while Ron Garney handled the artwork. The film's screenplay is by Mattson Tomlin (The Batman Part II), with Lin also serving as a producer alongside Reeves, Stephen Christy, Stephen Hamel, and Ross Richie.
With over 3.5 million copies sold worldwide, BRZRKR is one of the best-selling comics of the past decade, and its Netflix adaptation is expected to be a major event. Additionally, an anime spinoff is in development, also written by Tomlin.
Lin’s most recent project, Last Days, premiered at Sundance and tells the true story of John Allen Chau, a missionary who met a tragic fate on North Sentinel Island. Reeves was reportedly instrumental in getting the film made, further cementing his passion for storytelling beyond acting.
With Lin’s expertise in high-octane action and Reeves’ deep connection to the material, BRZRKR is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans of intense, brutal storytelling.
