Keanu Reeves Confirms "Constantine 2" Is In The Works: 'We’re Going To Try And Write A Script'

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Keanu Reeves is once again stepping into the world of demons, angels, and the occult as he pushes forward with Constantine 2. After years of expressing his desire to return to the role of John Constantine, Reeves recently revealed that he and director Francis Lawrence have pitched a sequel idea to DC Studios— and received a green light to develop a script.

“We’ve been trying to make this film for over a decade, and we just recently put a story together and pitched it to DC Studios and they said, ‘Okay,’” Reeves shared in a recent interview with Inverse. “So, we’re going to try and write a script.”

Though details remain under wraps, Reeves assured fans that the sequel will stay true to the dark and gritty atmosphere of the original 2005 film. “We’re not going off that,” he confirmed, hinting that audiences can expect even more torment for the supernatural detective: “John Constantine’s going to be tortured even more.”

On a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Reeves and Lawrence discussed the film’s legacy and their excitement for the sequel. Writer Akiva Goldsman is also on board, with Lawrence teasing that they are “pretty close on having an object that is really workable.”

While Constantine has remained absent from the big screen, the character has lived on in various TV adaptations, including Matt Ryan’s portrayal in Legends of Tomorrow and the short-lived Constantine series on NBC. However, fans of Reeves' version of the character can now finally look forward to his return—assuming the script comes together successfully.
