The “John Wick” franchise has been a major financial and cultural success for Lionsgate, pulling in over $1.02 billion worldwide across four films. With each installment earning more than four times its budget, it's no surprise that fans have been eager for a fifth movie—even after John Wick’s apparent death in Chapter 4.
However, Keanu Reeves has put speculation to rest, at least for now. Speaking with Extra TV while promoting his motorcycle docuseries Visionaries, Reeves stated:
“You know, the character’s dead. He died in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4.’ I know, in Hollywood you can [revive dead characters]. I know, I know, it’s the Hollywood story. Right now, there isn’t [any plans].”
Director Chad Stahelski has previously echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that there would need to be a compelling reason to bring Wick back. Though Lionsgate hinted at a potential script in development post-strike, Stahelski is currently focused on his Highlander reboot, which begins filming in May with Henry Cavill.
While a direct sequel seems unlikely at the moment, fans won’t have to say goodbye to the world of John Wick just yet. Reeves will reprise his role in Ballerina, the upcoming spinoff starring Ana de Armas, set to release later this year.
