Christopher Nolan’s highly anticipated adaptation of The Odyssey is taking shape, and now fans have their first look at Matt Damon as the legendary hero, Odysseus. Universal Pictures has officially confirmed Damon’s role, unveiling a striking first-look photo of the actor in character.
Damon, fresh off his collaboration with Nolan in Oppenheimer, leads an all-star cast that includes Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Himesh Patel, Bill Irwin, Samantha Morton, and Mia Goth.
Universal first teased The Odyssey as a “mythic action epic” shot with cutting-edge IMAX film technology, marking another ambitious cinematic venture for the visionary director. The film will bring to life Homer’s legendary tale of Odysseus’ perilous 10-year journey home after the Trojan War. Facing gods, monsters, and relentless suitors vying for his wife’s hand, Odysseus’ saga remains one of the most enduring stories in literature.
Nolan, who secured Best Director and Best Picture wins at the 2024 Oscars for Oppenheimer, reunites with Universal after parting ways with Warner Bros. in 2020. With The Odyssey slated for a July 17, 2026, release, production is set to begin later this month.
This marks Damon’s third collaboration with Nolan, following Interstellar and Oppenheimer. Given the director’s track record for turning historical and literary epics into cinematic masterpieces, expectations are sky-high for The Odyssey.
