Warner Bros. Pictures has announced significant delays for its two major live-action “Batman” films, sparking a mix of disappointment and curiosity among fans.
“The Batman: Part II” Pushed to 2027
Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated sequel to The Batman has been delayed by a full year. Originally slated for October 2, 2026, the release date has now shifted to October 1, 2027. Reeves, who has been meticulously refining the script, plans to begin filming in the third quarter of 2025. This delay might also coincide with a potential title change, as the current “Part II” moniker is under reconsideration.
DC Studios co-head James Gunn addressed the situation on Threads, stating:
“Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting, and post-production on big films.”
“Batman: The Brave and the Bold” Faces Uncertainty
Andy Muschietti, known for IT and The Flash, provided an update on Batman: The Brave and the Bold. While the film was never given a specific release date, its timeline has now been pushed further back. Speaking on the California Secreta podcast, Muschietti revealed:
“I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.”
This delay opens the door to speculation about casting for the upcoming DCU iteration of Batman. Among the top fan choices is Jensen Ackles, whose been the online frontrunner from voicing him previously in animated form.
As both projects develop, audiences can expect longer waits but, hopefully, cinematic experiences that live up to the legacy of Gotham’s Dark Knight.
