"PARADISE" WII SCENE VIDEO BELOW ARTICLE:
In a world of high-stakes political conspiracies and apocalyptic secrets, one thing stands out as truly bizarre: a ruthless assassin obsessed with the Nintendo Wii. The latest episode of Paradise delivers an unexpected twist as Jane, a secret service agent-turned-psychopath, leverages murder for access to a decades-old gaming console.
As Xavier closes in on solving a murder mystery, his daughter and the president’s son uncover the existence of survivors beyond the silo. This revelation sends shockwaves through the power structure, prompting Sinatra, the show's shadowy puppet master, to panic. She orders Jane to "handle" the situation—code for eliminating Xavier’s daughter. But Jane, ever the unpredictable villain, has a different request in exchange for the job: she wants access to the Nintendo Wii.
Yes, you read that right.
While the show has already established Jane as a cold-blooded killer (she executed her own love interest Billy earlier in the season), this moment adds a new layer of deranged obsession. Sinatra, understandably baffled by Jane’s demand, refuses to entertain it, but fails to confirm whether Jane will actually go through with murdering a teenager. That kind of oversight seems like a major villain fail.
In the end, Jane double-crosses everyone. She shoots Sinatra instead of Xavier’s daughter and declares that she has now seized control. As Sinatra lies wounded, Jane taunts her: "Probably should have just let me have the Wii."
Creator Dan Fogelman in an interview with Deadline says"Jane’s story remains to be told, but I find her delightful playing her thus far as a sociopath. She didn’t necessarily shoot Sinatra because she wanted to play the Wii. She was called insane by Sinatra so the Wii is the butt into the joke. This probably would’ve been all easier if you’d just given me that Wii. But she does love that damn video game, and I think it remains to be seen if Jane is playing three-dimensional chess while everybody else is playing checkers. Or, she’s just batsh*t crazy. That is a question that looms for the season to come."
The whole subplot raises wild questions. If the show takes place in the 2020s, why is a Wii the ultimate prize? Did the apocalypse halt technological progress at 2006? And more importantly, why didn’t Sinatra screen her secret assassins for extreme psychological instability? Maybe next time, a basic psych evaluation would be a good start—right after updating their gaming consoles.
