Patrick Schwarzenegger, known for his roles in Gen V and The White Lotus, recently revealed that he auditioned for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in James Gunn’s upcoming reboot. Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Schwarzenegger shared insights into his limited superhero audition history, which includes attempts for Homelander (The Boys), Golden Boy (Gen V), and Superman.
When asked about his Superman audition, Schwarzenegger admitted that his journey didn’t progress beyond the self-tape stage. He recalled submitting his audition but never receiving feedback, simply assuming, “I think it was like, ‘No, not for you.’” Ultimately, the role went to David Corenswet, while Schwarzenegger soon found success landing a part in The White Lotus Season 3.
The actor also discussed the shift in auditioning practices since the COVID-19 pandemic. He revealed that he has primarily auditioned via Zoom, with only two in-person auditions in recent years—one for The Idea of You (which he lost to Nicholas Galitzine) and another for American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez, where he secured the role of Tim Tebow.
While missing out on Superman may have been disappointing, Schwarzenegger’s career continues to rise, proving that even near-misses can lead to major opportunities in Hollywood.
