James Gunn’s Peacemaker made waves when it debuted on HBO Max, earning just as much, if not more, acclaim than Gunn’s own The Suicide Squad. The TV series proved the episodic format could expand on John Cena’s Peacemaker, turning the hyper-violent anti-hero into a surprisingly nuanced and sympathetic character.
By diving into his internal struggles and his interactions with the quirky middle-management team surrounding him, Peacemaker stood out as a bright spot for DC at a time when many of its projects were struggling.
One of the most iconic aspects of the show was its unforgettable opening sequence—a hilarious, deadpan dance number set to Wig Wam’s “Do Ya Wanna Taste It.” Featuring the entire cast performing a choreographed routine in a school gymnasium, the opening perfectly encapsulated the series’ offbeat humor and oddball charm. It became a cultural moment in its own right, widely shared and praised for its uniqueness.
As Peacemaker gears up for its highly anticipated second season later this year, fans are buzzing about the show’s new opening sequence. Creator James Gunn confirmed that the dance number will be revamped for the second run, adding even more excitement to the return.
John Cena, speaking to Collider, teased the new sequence while reflecting on the first:
“Filming the dance number in Season 1... you still kind of scratch your head, like, ‘Is this going to work?’ Then, when it became such a part of the show, I think everybody this time was just so excited, and I really think that’s going to show. I’m very happy with it.”
Cena highlighted how the cast and crew’s enthusiasm played a role in making this new opening feel even more special. He also praised Gunn for his creative vision, saying, “It does take a village, and gosh, we got so many heroes behind the camera... it’s a great way to thank everybody for putting a whole lot of effort into making something good.”
While no full trailer has been released for Season 2 yet, a brief glimpse of Peacemaker was included in HBO & Max’s 2025 promo reel. With anticipation building and Gunn’s track record of delivering on fan expectations, the upcoming season—and its new intro—are sure to keep audiences talking.
