Robert Pattinson is known for his intense approach to acting, but even he can sometimes get lost in the process. While filming A24’s upcoming film The Drama, Pattinson found himself obsessing over a particular scene, convinced there was a deeper meaning he needed to uncover. In an interview with French publication Premiere (via IndieWire), Pattinson admitted that he spent three days analyzing the scene, filling pages with notes, and spiraling into self-doubt.
Desperate for clarity, he finally reached out to his co-star, Zendaya, the night before shooting. After listening to his concerns for two hours, she gave him a simple but effective piece of advice: “There’s no hidden meaning. Just say the lines.” That straightforward guidance was enough to snap Pattinson out of his overthinking, proving once again that sometimes, less is more.
Directed by Kristoffer Borgli (Dream Scenario, Sick of Myself), The Drama remains largely mysterious in terms of plot, though reports suggest it revolves around a couple (played by Pattinson and Zendaya) facing an unexpected twist before their big day. Given Borgli’s track record and A24’s reputation for thought-provoking films, expectations are high.
Interestingly, this isn’t the only time Pattinson has struggled with a scene recently. While working on Lynne Ramsay’s upcoming psychological drama Die, My Love, he nearly had a breakdown over a dance scene with Jennifer Lawrence. Despite encouragement from Lawrence and Ramsay, Pattinson admitted he was overwhelmed, even sweating through his trousers from anxiety.
With The Drama and Die, My Love both awaiting release dates, fans will have to wait to see how these intense performances unfold on screen. But one thing’s for sure—Zendaya’s calm, no-nonsense approach might just be the secret weapon Pattinson needs.
