The Marvel Cinematic Universe is expanding once again, with Stranger Things star Sadie Sink officially joining Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), the upcoming film is set to swing into theaters on July 31, 2026.
While Sink’s role remains a mystery, speculation is already swirling among fans. Many believe she could be playing Gwen Stacy, a beloved character in Spider-Man lore. She was Peter Parker's fallen girlfriend played by Emma Stone in the Andrew Garfield movies.
The last Spider-Man installment, No Way Home, ended with the world forgetting Peter Parker’s identity, including MJ (Zendaya). This paves the way for new relationships and characters to emerge in Peter’s life. Could Sink’s character be a love interest, a hero in her own right, or even a new villain?
Tom Holland has teased that the new film will take a unique approach: “The idea is crazy. It’s a little different to anything we’ve done before, but I think the fans are gonna really respond to it.” With Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna returning as screenwriters, expectations are high for another thrilling chapter in Spider-Man’s story.
Sink, best known for her role as Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, is wrapping up her time on the hit Netflix series. She’s also set to star in the upcoming film O’Dessa and the Broadway play John Proctor Is The Villain.
With her impressive acting chops and undeniable screen presence, Sink’s addition to the MCU is an exciting development. Whether she’s playing Gwen Stacy or an entirely new character, fans can’t wait to see her web-sling into action.
UPDATE: Jeff Sneider, during his installment of The Hot Mic with Jeff Sneider and John Rocha, has seemingly revealed her role and it seems as though she will indeed be playing Mary Jane Watson who in the comics has red hair. It would make her a variant since Zendaya plays Michelle-Jane Watson. Spider-Man 4 takes place between the next two Avengers films.
