The highly anticipated Spider-Man Noir series, starring Nicolas Cage, could be released in both color and black-and-white, according to actor Lukas Haas. The upcoming Amazon MGM Studios project follows Cage as an aging private investigator in 1930s New York, revisiting his past as the city’s lone superhero.
In a recent interview, Haas—who plays an underling to Brendan Gleeson’s villain—revealed that the series was filmed with an authentic noir aesthetic. He described seeing black-and-white footage on set monitors, making the production feel like a classic 1930s film. This choice was not just a stylistic gimmick but an integral part of the filmmaking process, allowing the actors and crew to immerse themselves in the era’s visual style. By viewing the shots in black and white during filming, the team could ensure that the lighting, contrast, and shadows were meticulously crafted to match the film noir aesthetic.
Haas noted how surreal it was to glance at the monitors and feel as though he was watching vintage footage rather than a modern production. The effect was so convincing that it created a unique atmosphere on set, reinforcing the old-school detective story's tone and mood. Given this attention to detail, a black-and-white release seems like a natural fit for the series, allowing audiences to experience the full impact of the noir-inspired cinematography. If Amazon does move forward with a dual release, fans of classic Hollywood and noir filmmaking will likely be in for a visual treat.
While Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed dual releases, Haas’ comments suggest a potential black-and-white version alongside the standard color format. Given the success of other stylized releases, such as Logan Noir and Mad Max: Fury Road – Black & Chrome, this move could enhance the show’s immersive period feel.
The series, featuring a star-studded cast including Lamorne Morris, Jack Huston, and Li Jun Li, has yet to receive an official premiere date on Amazon Prime Video.
