Warner Bros. & Discovery Leverages Puppy Bowl For Major “Superman” Marketing Push

Writer: Dan LalondeDan Lalonde

Warner Bros. Discovery is taking its annual Puppy Bowl event to new heights this year, integrating a unique promotional strategy for James Gunn’s highly anticipated film, Superman. The Puppy Bowl, a beloved tradition airing on Super Bowl Sunday, combines entertainment with advocacy by showcasing adoptable puppies from shelters across the U.S. in a playful football-themed event.

Last year’s program drew a staggering 12.6 million viewers across its simulcast, making it a prime platform for Warner Bros. Discovery to spotlight their next blockbuster.

The 2025 Puppy Bowl, set for Sunday, February 9th, will not only delight viewers with its heartwarming antics but also feature Gunn himself, accompanied by his dog Ozu. Ozu served as the inspiration for Krypto, the superdog featured in Superman.

Gunn will introduce a sneak peek of the film and deliver a heartfelt message to fans. Adding to the excitement, one lucky pup in the game will receive the ‘Krypto Super Play’ award, tying the adorable event to the cinematic universe.

This year’s Puppy Bowl boasts a record-breaking lineup of 142 puppies from 80 shelters, emphasizing its core mission of promoting pet adoption. The event will be simulcast across Animal Planet, TBS, TruTV, Discovery, Max, and Discovery+, ensuring maximum visibility for both the pups and the upcoming film.

By blending philanthropy with cinematic promotion, Warner Bros. Discovery is creating a compelling campaign that not only raises awareness for shelter animals but also builds excitement for Superman. Don’t miss the Puppy Bowl, where superdogs and superheroes come together for a greater cause.
