In a surprise Twitch appearance on xQc’s livestream, Will Smith revealed exciting updates on two long-awaited sequels: I Am Legend 2 and Hancock 2.
I Am Legend 2 Will Ignore Theatrical Ending
Smith confirmed that I Am Legend 2 is officially moving forward and will follow the alternate DVD ending of the 2007 film, where his character, Dr. Robert Neville, survives instead of sacrificing himself. This choice significantly changes the story's direction and allows for a continuation true to the original novel’s themes.
Michael B. Jordan is set to co-star, and Akiva Goldsman is writing the script. Smith shared:
“Me and Michael B. Jordan sat down for about a week, just went through character stuff. That’s a real thing. I love to work with that dude, he really gets it.”
With the original film grossing $585 million, anticipation for the sequel is high.
Hancock 2 Is Also in Development
Smith also confirmed that a sequel to Hancock is in the works. The 2008 superhero film, which earned $629.4 million at the box office, featured Smith as a reckless, amnesiac superhero. The new film is based on a “really cool idea,” and Zendaya is reportedly being considered for a role.
While details are still under wraps, the return of Hancock—which originally starred Charlize Theron and Jason Bateman—has fans eager for more.
With both projects now in development, Will Smith’s return to blockbuster films is shaping up to be major news for moviegoers.
